Students are creating mosaics in the arabesque style- no animals or people!
They are using construction paper to create symmetrical designs and then fill in their spaces with beautiful colors. Students are starting a new unit on ancient Islam. They are going to be creating many different types of artwork including illustrations, mosaics, tessellations and building designs.
Because so much of the art of ancient Islam is based in symmetry and geometry the students will also be working on a math packet to introduce them to tessellations. This will usually take place of their warm ups. Today the Utah Museum of Fine Art brought in a traveling exhibit of art that comes from the 5 tribes of Utah!
Students were able to touch a blanket, basket, moccasin, purse and small flask! They also began to create a book that tells a story using only pictures like the pictographs we looked at in class! Illustrations are a beautiful part of the Koran in Islamic culture and we are trying to create our own illustrations!
Students are still working hard to color and create! I can illustrate a popular saying or phrase.
Students will create two illustrations to show understanding of their saying or phrase. We are also starting to talk about SYMMETRY- when something is the same on both sides. Students completed their vocab on ancient Islam today.
If you were absent please turn in a completed vocab sheet!
