Why do artists choose to paint land or faces?
Students will be creating multiple examples of landscapes that focus on foreground, middle ground and background after looking at many examples of famous landscapes. They will also create portraits of tigers, turkeys and themselves. Columns and pottery and sculpture, oh my!
We will be finishing our paper pottery this week and then working on completing a column that our paper pottery can sit upon. We will learn about the three types of Greek columns: doric, ionic and corinthian. We are starting a unit on ancient Greek art!
Pottery is first! We will look examples of the black and brown pottery common in ancient Greece. We will then create a paper pottery pattern that shows patterns of shapes and lines using brown and black markers and crayons. Students also have the opportunity to earn a project that I received a grant for! I was able to get real Terracotta pots that the students will be able to decorate. We are working on some super spooky trees! We will use warm colors to create buddy lines in our spooky sky and then use black paint to create a spooky old tree.
We are still working on lines and colors. Students will also finish their fall pumpkins with pastel on black paper. This week students are looking at "The Great Wave" by Hokusai. They are creating images of waves based on this! They will then trace over the pencil lines with crayon and paint their images.
This week we should complete our musical line drawings! Students have been working diligently on creating beautiful works of art!
I can't wait for you to see them- once they are finished I will take photographs and upload them to our artsonia web page! |
