Activity: Today students worked hard on their paper mosaics making sure they are in the arabesque style: Curving lines, geometric shapes and floral designs. Activity: Today students reviewed symmetry and then listened to the story "Gold domes and Silver Lanterns- a muslim book of colors". After this they will then work to create a symmetrical design in the arabesque style. We will turn these into paper mosaics in the next week! Objective: Students will be able to complete and identify Islamic works of art Activity: Students will finish and present a picture illustrating a popular saying or phrase ie: Once in a blue moon showing the literal and figurative meaning. Assessment: Completion, rubric based on illustration (foreground, middle ground, background, details, texture, pattern, shows saying) Students complete their vocabulary sheets to show understanding of Islamic Art Vocabulary words. If your student was absent please have them complete the worksheet at home for credit. Dome: A hemispheric ceiling Minaret: A prayer tower Qur'an- The holy book of Islam Arabesque- Decoration using floral designs, geometric patterns and curving lines. ![]()
