This week we looked at artworks from the middle ages that we borrowed from the UMFA! We also looked at "The Unicorn Tapestries" and started to put the warp strings on our looms.

This week students will be working on their Illuminated letter projects. They should start coloring on Monday and continue to work hard on their careful crayon coloring throughout the week.
Friday we will begin to look at some beautiful works of art from the Middle Ages borrowed from the art museum! Students will love to be able to get a close up of the objects we see! Here is a link to the details of the design a monster contest! If you want to participate please have your design returned to me by 9/24. Thank you!
https://clubs2.scholastic.com/reading-club/contests/pdfs/Goosebumps_Contest_092015.pdf This week we will celebrate Dot Day (inspired by the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds) by creating group circle paintings and we will finish up our Elements of art booklets.
Today we started our unit on the art of the middle ages!
Students were responsible for completing a vocabulary worksheet. If your student was absent they can get a sheet from me and then fill it out with the following vocabulary words and definitions as homework. Tapestry- a piece of art made of fabric. It can be a weaving, embroidery or painting. Rose Window- A circular design made of colored and clear glass. Statue- a sculpture of an animal or person. illuminated Manuscript- A handmade book with elaborately decorated letters and pages. This week students learned about the way the art room runs in 4th grade. Daily doodles, daily points, rules and procedures were all covered this week. Students then began creating beautiful portfolios to store their art.
Welcome to the art room at Monticello Academy! I hope you will make sure to check back often to see what your students are up to! Here is a copy of the disclosure document which covers grades, units and how to contact me. I look forward to getting to know you and your student this year!
Objective: student will be able to design and paint a building using at least three of the elements of architecture discussed in class. Students will be using watercolor as a kind of test for the end of the year to see if they have been able to learn to use this material properly.
Students are also testing this week and will be missing some art time on Wednesday. Sad! Students are finishing their tessellation projects. They need to be colored in an interesting pattern and show understanding of creating a tessellation.
