This week students will:
Finish their oil pastel illustrations. Paint Chinese Characters to create a poem. Look at examples of Landscape paintings. Begin a drawing of a landscape. Begin painting their landscape. I can create a poem using Chinese characters. I will illustrate my poem.
I can take notes on the vocabulary words we will use during our unit on China.
Scroll- A long piece of rolled paper or silk. Flask- A narrow mouthed jar. Porcelain- White clay used to create dishes. Calligraphy- Elegant writing using a brush. I can take notes on Africa and use a ruler. Students listened to a presentation on Africa today and took notes. We will talk about Mali, Togo, Benin, the Congo, South African and Ghana in our studies on African art.
I can label a map and create a take home portfolio.
Students today had WAY too much fun creating their take home boxes! They loved designing and then coloring the boxes to put all of their Middle Ages inspired art treasures inside! We also worked on labeling the continent of Africa. It is always interesting talking to students about Africa because they don't understanding how large it is and can't name 2 countries (there are over 60!). I love seeing how they start to develop a deeper understanding for such a large, diverse, vibrant place. Next time we will take our notes and work on starting our "mud cloths". Vocabulary words for the Art of Africa unit Bust- a sculpture of the head and shoulders of a person Ivory- The tusk of an elephant used in some African art Pigment- Matter used to color something Apprenticeship- A period of a persons life spent learning a craft or trade from an expert
I can color my rose window.
Today we had a Halloween parade and missed most of our short art class. Sad! We did have some time to work on our radially symmetrical rose window drawings. The kids are working on coloring their designs with colored pencil. I can use a transfer process to create a radially symmetrical design.
Students used a transfer process where they take the graphite on their paper and rub it onto another part of their paper to create a symmetrical design. They will color with colored pencil. We also learned some new vocabulary words: Cathedral- a large important church Spire- The point of a steeple Pointed Arch- An arch that comes to a point on the top Flying Buttress- A supportive arch on a cathedral I can finish my winter card.
Students used oil pastel to create snowflakes on their backgrounds. The snowflakes should show radial symmetry. |
