We will also be listening to the musical number "In the Hall of the Mountain King" which students will learn about in music class later this year and we will be making musical line drawings. Students will be practicing control of their pastels and careful, complete coloring.
This week we will celebrate a great book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds by creating beautiful dots using warm or cool colors.

This week students are getting an introduction to the art room and will be creating personal portfolios. They will then be able to keep all of their artworks in these folders all year.
Welcome to the art room at Monticello Academy! I hope you will make sure to check back often to see what your students are up to! Here is a copy of the disclosure document which covers grades, units and how to contact me. I look forward to getting to know you and your student this year! ![]()
This week students will use liquid watercolor to paint their buildings.
It's time for the final unit in art class! With only a few weeks to go we are starting to look at buildings. We read "Iggy Peck Architect" and then I led students through a visualization where they needed to imagine their dream castle! They then drew their beautiful, unique castles on painting paper and will paint next week!
Time to put the pinwheels together! This is a challenging project because it involves a lot of multitasking to get the pinwheels to stay put. When finished the pinwheels look incredible!
Students are coloring their pinwheels today doing their very best coloring on the front and back- they are looking great!
Today students are starting to draw their pinwheel designs. They are creating one side with an abstract animal in a place (they don't have to make sense- in fact the best titles make NO sense!) and then using simple lines and shapes to create a design on the back. They are awesome!
Students learned about abstract, semi-abstract and realistic this week.
We looked at multiple pieces of art including Paul Klee's "Cat and Bird" and Albrecht Durer's "Hare". We created an example of a realistic cat drawing and an abstract cat as well. We will be talking about abstract and non-objective art for the next few weeks! |
