This week we will complete our texture cubes and shape pyramids. Students will have created two beautiful sculptures that will show understanding of many concepts with the elements of art- line, shape, space, form, texture and color.

This week we will celebrate dot day in honor of the great book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds.
We will create circle paintings with our table groups. We will also finish our texture cubes. This week students are getting an introduction to the art room and will be creating personal portfolios. They will then be able to keep all of their artworks in these folders all year.

This week we are finishing up our quilt square designs and then starting a design for a spring windsock! These will be big, colorful and beautiful!

Students are going to be learning about Native American art for a few weeks and we are working on creating a list of tribes and the type of artwork we will talk about for each tribe. Today students looked at a piece of art called "Plains Buffalo Robe" and we read the story "The Goat in the Rug". Students then created a design for a Navajo Rug using many nature symbols.
Today we finished taking notes on Native American tribes and started to create designs for objects made from natural resources like clay, shells, animal hides and sheeps wool.
We will take a break from Tar Beach to create our own solar systems!
Students will learn a new technique with chalk to draw spheres. They will be cutting them out and gluing next week. Students also got to roll a piece of clay into a ball which will turn into a planet next week! |
